How to compress an image to 20KB
Upload your original, keep the 20KB target selected, and click Compress. The output shows its actual byte count and whether the target was met. Keep the original if you may need a larger version later.
A 20KB cap is tight for a detailed photo. Crop unused background first, and check the destination’s required width, height and format. Automatic downscaling must not take the image below those requirements.
Check more than the file size
| Requirement | What to verify |
|---|---|
| 20KB maximum | Check actual output bytes; choose 19KB for a strict 20,000-byte limit. |
| Signature or small text | Inspect at normal size; avoid broken strokes or unreadable letters. |
| JPG required | Download a real JPG, not a renamed PNG or HEIC. |
| Minimum dimensions | Confirm that automatic downscaling did not go below the minimum. |
Why the result may not fit
Some combinations of dimensions, detail and minimum quality cannot fit this small a budget. The tool reports when it does not meet the target. Use a simpler crop or smaller dimensions if the destination allows it.
The displayed KB unit uses 1024 bytes. Some upload forms count 1000 bytes per KB; a slightly lower target leaves room for that difference. The tool aims for a ceiling and does not pad the file to exactly 20KB.
